RASHTRASANT Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) bagged four medals including three golds and a bronze in 25th Maharashtra State Inter-University Sports Festival ‘Krida Mahotsav’ being hosted by the university at its Ravi Nagar Sports Complex. The hosts bagged highest number of gold medals in athletics on Saturday. But, in tally of total medals, Savitribai Phule Pune University is leading with seven medals, followed by Shivaji University, Kolhapur with six. PAH Solapur University and RTMNU have four medals each. The contest of 23 universities from all across Maharashtra will continue next couple of days. In-form Adarsh Bhure of RTMNU won gold in 100 metre men’s running by clocking an impressive time of 10.83 seconds. Vinit Dinkar of PAH Solapur University won silver with a timing of 10.87 seconds. Ajay Khade of Shivaji University, Kolhapur won bronze by carving out 10.98 secs.
Bhure had won a silver in All India meet in Chennai eight days ago and pocketed a bronze medal in the same event in North East West Inter-University Athletics Meet in Bhubaneswar in December.
Girls brought three of the four medals won by RTMNU. Neha Dhabale, won gold in women’s 400m running by completing it in 57.06 seconds. Akanksha Gavade, PAH Solapur University clocked 58.01 seconds for silver. Titiksha Patole of Shivaji University, Kolhapur won bronze finishing in 58.37 seconds. Chaitali Borkar brought the third gold for RTMNU in women’s 1500m running with a time of 4:53.32 min. In a close chase, Vedashree Lonari of Savitribai Phule Pune University took 4:55.30 minutes for silver and Purva Shevale of Shivaji University bagged bronze. V Nageshwari of RTMNU won bronze in women’s 100m running with a time of 12.97 seconds. Performing better than her, Manjusha Shetty from SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai won silver, clocking 12.85 seconds while Charvi Poojari of University of Mumbai won gold by clocking an impressive time of 12.72 seconds. League matches of basketball, badminton, table tennis and volleyball are getting fierce with knock-outs approaching. Finals of all the events will be held on January 15.
