The Bhopal Police exhumed body of the new-born baby who was killed in stray dogs attack for post-mortem, on Saturday. The parents of the baby had buried the body after his death in the stray dogs’ attack. The police said that the parents of the baby were unable to record their detailed statements. Police said that the father told that he hurriedly buried the body as he was nervous and unable to inform police or think anything else after losing his only son. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Akshay Chowdhary said that the dogs dragged this 7-month-old infant from the park and ate one of his hands on Wednesday. There were marks of dogs’ teeth and nails all over the body. This incident at Minal Residency came to light on Friday following a flurry of social media messages. On this incident, Chairman of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Priyank Kanoongo said that officers are responsible for this heart-wrenching incident. The commission will serve a notice to the district administration in the issue.

On Saturday, Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh held a meeting with Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Frank Noble A for catching stray dogs. Action will also be taken against the responsible officers of the dog squad, said a municipal officer. Devendra, father of deceased innocent Keshav, told that on the morning of January 10, he had gone to Minal Residency along with his wife Raksha Bai, daughter Seveniya 7, Pari 5 and 7-month-old son Keshav. He said that they are engaged in cleaning work here. The child was put to sleep after feeding him milk at 11 in the morning. Sevaniya and Keshav were in the park. Pari was with us. However, Sevaniya too went somewhere and when she returned after a few minutes, the child was not in the park. As soon as the daughter told us, we started searching for the son.

Then someone told that three dogs had tried to eat the infant and horror struck locals were standing near it. I reached there but no one even allowed me to see the child’s face. I was very nervous, when I took the child to the hospital the doctors declared him dead. Then I could see his face, he said. We are poor people, do not know the rules, he said. The body was buried near the crematorium located at Chhawni Pathar. He said that all three are stray dogs and thus who should he blamed for the incident. Now, the BMC has intensified the campaign to catch stray dogs in the entire city from Saturday. The district administration has also given financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to the family.
