Cheating case against couple on court’s directives

 

 

 

 

 

 

Acting on the directives of the court, Durg Kotwali Police have registered cheating case against a Durg-based couple who duped a man of Rs 5.50 lakh by promising him hefty returns on investment in gold business and later refusing to return his money saying that they have suffered loss in the business. The complainant had also approached the police earlier, but after not getting expected response, he filed a petition in the court. Judicial Magistrate First Class Ankita Gupta directed the police to register the FIR and inform about the actions taken by it in connection to the case within 15 days.

 

The victim Prakash Kumar Dewangan (42), son of Parmanand resides on Sadar Bazaar Road near Narera Complex, Durg while the accused couple Vedurvada Santosh Achari (42), son of Venkat Rao and his wife V Rani Soni (39) lives in Shivpara Ward, Chandi Temple road, Durg. Prakash told the court that he was acquainted to the accused couple and they allegedly lured him to invest in their gold business promising to double his money in six months. Looking at the lavish lifestyle of the couple, the victim fell prey to their offer and gave three cheques of Rs 1 lakh each to them on September 26, 2018. A week later, the couple even returned Rs 20,000 to Prakash telling him that he has earned profits and somehow convinced him again to invest Rs 2.50 lakh more. Believing on them, Prakash, on October 4, in the same year again gave two cheques of Rs 1 lakh each to them and handed over Rs 50,000 to them in cash.

 

Prakash said that later whenever he approached the couple seeking his profits, they started making one or other excuses and also started ignoring him. When he insisted to return his Rs 5.50 lakh, the couple allegedly abused him telling that they have suffered loss in the gold business challenging Prakash to do whatever he can do to get the money back. Meanwhile on court’s directives, Durg Kotwali Police have registered offence against the couple under sections 294, 34, 420 and 506 (B) of the Indian Penal Code and investigating further.
