The houses of Korwa, Birhor and Pando, special backward tribes living in the mountains, will soon be illuminated with lights. 219 houses in 23 settlements will be electrified through CREDA. A 300 watt solar panel will be installed in each house at a cost of Rs 50 thousand. Due to the remote location, electricity facility is not available at these places. Now, with the initiative of the Central Government, the administration has taken notice of them. People of special backward tribes like Korwa, Pando and Birhor living in rugged hilly areas are still living in darkness. Now the Central Government has decided to enlighten such families under Janman Yojna. Years ago, the district administration had tried to bring these special backward tribes to the plains, but owing to unfavorable environment, many families have gone back. For this reason, the government has decided to provide facilities at their residence itself.

 

Due to low population, it is not possible to install poles under traditional energy supply system. Hence, solar panels of 300 watt capacity will be installed in the houses of tribals. CREDA will be responsible for maintenance of these panels for five years. If any technical problem occurs, it will be rectified. During the interval of these five years, the people from the tribal community will be trained for maintenance. Lighting these houses will improve the standard of living for these tribal families. With departmental co-ordination to improve the standard of living of the tribals, efforts are being made rapidly to make Aadhaar card, ration card, bank account, voter card etc. for the deprived tribal community people. As per the intention of the government, a plan to illuminate the house is also included in the effort to bring change in the standard of living in their place of residence. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, construction of a tank has already been proposed for the supply of drinking water to these settlements under the joint auspices of CREDA and PHE department. The work will be completed by the month of March. People of Korwa and other special backward tribes are still forced to drink water from Dhodhi.

 

Families will get clean water by installing a water supply tank equipped with solar panels. Due to lack of access to electricity in their homes, tribal families still live with the light of Kosam and Dori oil. With the price of kerosene being Rs 120 per liter in fair price shops, it is beyond the purchasing power of the tribals. The government has decided to provide free ration but due to lack of reduction in the price of kerosene, the tribals are being deprived of electricity. Speaking on the subject, Executive Engineer of CREDA, Deepak Sahu said that 23 settlements dominated by special backward tribes, living without electricity have been identified. Electrification will be done here by CREDA. 300 watt solar panel will be installed in each house.
