DHARAMPETH Krida Mandal (DKM) girls and Nutan Bharat Yuwak Sangh (NBYS) emerged champions in the inter-club junior basketball championship of Khasdar Krida Mandal at the Hanuman Nagar courts.
The basketball title clash on concluding day of the event was a contest between teams of DKM and NBYS where a title each was shared by them.
In a lop-sided girls title clash DKM thrashed NBYS by as many as 26 points (71-45). In contrast, the boys final was an exciting affair where NBYS prevailed over DKM by five points (48-43).
In the girls’ section, Sneha Khandelwal fired a game-high 28 points as Dhara Phate (19) and Nandini Chandak (16) came up with timely contributions for DKM. For NBYS, Sahi Khopde (17) and Mrunmayee Sathe (12) played well.
The quarter-wise progress for DKM read 18-6, 18-14, 17-14, 18-11.
The neck-and-neck boys final saw NBYS taking an early lead which they maintained till the final whistle despite a fightback from DKM at the midway mark. NBYS won the title clash by five points (48-43) with Ojas Deshpande emerging as the top scorer with 21 points while Ashutosh Sharma (9) did well. For DKM Atharva Dhore (15) and Mohit Tiwari (10) played well.
Both the champion teams were given cash prizes of Rs 31,000 each and a glittering trophy. The prizes were distributed by Secretary of Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA) Bhavesh Kuchanwar. On the occasion, Vasant Shirpurkar, Ravindra Kulkarni, Sandip Selukar, Samir Shirvastava and other NDBA officials were present.
Rajshree shines
CITY’S veteran swimmer Rajshree Jain won three bronze medals in the swimming event of Khasdar Krida Mahotsav at NIT Swimming Pool recently.
The 65-year-old Rajshree won her medals in the 200m backstroke, 100m and 200m butterfly participating in the 35+ category as it was the only age group in the event.
