Hundreds of Bajrang Dal members on Monday staged gherao of Khamardih police station after the police granted immediate bail to the miscreants accused of assaulting an elderly man and vandalising his home at Gayatri Nagar. Bajrang Dal State Convener Rishi Kumar Mishra told ‘The Hitavada’ that miscreants attempted to kill an elderly man at Gayatri Nagar. The incident happened in front of the police personnel, yet they didn’t intervene, Mishra alleged. The police also released with the accused individuals within a few hours on bail from the police station. Additional Superintendent of Police Lakhan Patle assured that the police will register more statements and add fresh provisions to strengthen the case.
According to the complainant, B L Agrawal, the disturbance occurred outside the society around 11:45 PM on January 28. A group of boys was reportedly hurling abuses, prompting Agrawal to investigate. Upon going outside, he witnessed some goons forcefully entering the colony, using indecent language, throwing stones, breaking a car’s windshield and making threats.
They were allegedly searching for Santosh Jain’s family within the apartment. Agrawal, along with Vijay Aravaliya and other colony members, intervened and brought the individuals down from the apartment. Despite efforts to de-escalate the situation, the aggressors continued with abusive language until the colony residents escorted them out. The incident was promptly reported to the Khamhardih police station, leading to an ongoing investigation. Subsequent to the inquiry, the police arrested the identified individuals involved in vandalising the car, assaulting residents and causing a disturbance inside the apartment. The arrested individuals include: Sheikh Imran, son of Sheikh Ismail, aged 21, Faheem Khan, aged 28, Mohammad Shakeel Ahmed, aged 46, residents of K K Road, Moudhapara in Raipur.
