After the Barkatullah University (BU) hiked the affiliation fee of private colleges from session 2023-24, the directors have filed various complaint from bureaucrats to ministers. Plea was also submitted to the Governor demanding to reduce the affiliation fee. The university has said to impose the newly-revised affiliation fee from session 2023-24, but because of pending disbursal of the complaints, officials said to impose the new fee from session 2024-25. After discussing the demands and proposals of colleges, standing committee forwarded the matter to the co-ordination Committee meeting scheduled for January 31. State Governor Mangubhai Patel will be taking decision regarding the matter on Wednesday.

Private colleges have submitted memorandum to the ministers, Governor and other administrative officials saying that university has hiked the affiliation charges by manifold. After much hue and cry, a committee was formed on university-level. The committee will be submitting its report to the co-ordination committee and then final decision will be taken. The Governor will be taking final decision in this regards. Private Colleges’ Association has also sent a letter to the Government in this regards. In its letter, association said that BU has hiked the affiliation fee in notification released on June 20, 2023, for all colleges from session 2023-24 by ten folds.

The association claimed that the decision of raising affiliation fee by manifold is illogical and invalid. According to the association, for LLB, affiliation fee has been enhanced from Rs 20,000 to 2 lakhs, for LLM and B.Ed, BU is charging Rs 2.50 lakhs, for M.Ed, BU is charging Rs 3 lakhs. MP Association of Technical and Professional Institutes (MPATPI) has termed the fee hike as unprecedented. The association has said that university has increased fee from Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakhs. Vice Chancellor of Barkatullah University S K Jain said, “Decision has not be taken by one person or on personal level. It was decided in the official meeting to revise the affiliation fee. Final decision will be taken by the Governor in co-ordination committee meeting to be held on January 31. The university will be asking new affiliation fee only after the decision of Governor.”
