Indicating an improvement in economy, the State has registered the highest growth rate in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections in December 2023. The GST collection of Rs 3,304 crore has been received by the Commercial Tax Department in the month of December 2023. Informing about this record collection, Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda said “This amount is the highest revenue received in any month after the implementation of GST in July 2017 in the State”. He also extended his greetings to taxpayers, tax consultants, chartered accountants and departmental officers. Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda also holds the Finance Department, Commercial Tax and Economic and Statistics Ministry portfolio.

 

On this historic achievement of the Commercial Tax Department, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has also congratulated the Finance Minister and his team. CM stated “hearty congratulations to Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda and the entire team of the Commercial Tax Department on the achievement of record collection of GST revenue. Also thanks to the taxpayers of our State for their continuous support and trust.” CM also mention that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Madhya Pradesh is all set to play a pivotal role to push the country’s economy ahead.”

 

Notably, Madhya Pradesh along with Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh topped the list of States with the highest growth rate in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections in the first four months of the current fiscal compared to the same period last year. In a conversation with ‘The Hitavada’ over phone, Indore-based analyst said “Higher growth seems to be led by growth in consumption, large population, higher purchasing power and improved compliance, in brief it shows improvement in economy.”
