A mother-son duo were killed in a horrific mishap on Amravati Road under the jurisdiction of Wadi Police Station on Thursday. The incident once again underlines the perils of movement of stray animals on the highway, as it was the prime cause of the mishap. The two deceased have been identified as Rajni Subhash Girnale (50) and Akshay (28), both residents of Anjangaon Surji in Amravati district. The sister of Akshay identified as Shraddha was left injured in the accident. According to police, the mishap occurred around 12 noon and Akshay was on the driver’s seat of the car (MH-12/LV-5939) and the Girnale family was on way to Amravati from city. The primary probe revealed that Akshay was driving the four wheeler and was driving at normal speed on the highway and as they were crossing the 8th Milestone former lost control over the vehicle. The car flipped over as Akshay reportedly tried to avoid hitting the animal that came in front of the car. The car first slammed into the road divider and thereafter further flipped over onto the other side of the road.

The moment the car flipped over to other side of the road, at the same time a truck coming from Amravati towards Nagpur rammed into the four wheeler. The truck driver had no time to respond for slowing down as entire incident occurred in a flash even as passers-by watched in disbelief. Some of the eye witnesses told the Wadi police that Akshay to avoid hitting a stray animal that crossed the path moved the steering wheel and that resulted in him loosing the control. The truck (MH-40/3088) rammed with full speed in the car that remained a mangled heap of steel. People nearby stopped on hearing the loud crash and rushed to help the trapped family. However the impact of the dash by the truck was very powerful and front portion was broken in multiple pieces that were beyond repair. Akshay and his mother were trapped in between the seats and steering wheel and two were very serious condition and died soon after on the spot itself.

Shraddha was extricated from the mangled heap of car and rushed to Mayo Hospital. Meanwhile a team of Wadi police led by PI Pradip Rayanwar reached the spot with the team. After spot panchanama the bodies of Akshay and Rajni were sent for post mortem. Due to the mishap a long queue of vehicles lined-up on the busy Amravati-Nagpur highway as the road was blocked due to collided vehicles. The Wadi police learnt that Girnale family had come to city for an appointment with Doctor as Shraddha was not keeping well and hence they wanted to consult a specialist. Wadi Police are conducting further investigations.
