The Maharashtra Government on Monday felicitated city’s chess player Woman Grandmaster and International Master Divya Deshmunk for winning gold medals for India at the 45th Chess Olympiad held in Budapest in Hungary last month.
Along with Divya, city’s Grand Master Sankalp Gupta was also felicitated with was also part of the Indian men’s team as a support player.
Divya received Rs 1 crore and a memento at the hands of Chief Minister Eknath Shine and Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar at a function held in Mumbai on Monday.
Sankalp Gupta was rewarded with Rs 10 lakh.
Divya had won the team gold as well as individual gold in the Olympiad.
The State government has recently declared to reward Maharashtra players winning medals at international level, including Olympics, Asian Games and other continental events.
