NISAR Tamboli, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 2005 batch, assumed his new role as the Joint Commissioner of Police in city on Wednesday. He took over the charge of his new assignment from Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjay Patil, who had been managing the Joint CP’s office following the transfer of Aswati Dorje to Mumbai as the Special Inspector General of Police for the Protection of Civil Rights. Tamboli is recognised for his exemplary service and is a recipient of the President’s Medal, highlighting his dedication and contributions to the Police Force.
 
With extensive experience across various police units in Maharashtra, his notable assignments include serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Chief Vigilance Officer at CIDCO, Mumbai. Having completed his schooling at Satara Sainik School and earning a post-graduate degree from Marathawada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Tamboli began his career as a Deputy Superintendent of Police after successfully passing the MPSC examination in 1996. Tamboli has served in several districts, including Hingoli, Bhokar, and Wardha, before being promoted to IPS in 2005. Most recently, Tamboli held the position of Joint Commissioner of the State Intelligence Department (SID) in Mumbai. Tamboli’s appointment is seen as a significant development for Nagpur’s police force, with expectations that his wealth of experience will enhance law enforcement efforts in the city, often referred to as the Second Capital of Maharashtra.
