Union Minister and Agrovision’s chief patron Nitin Gadkari on Friday said that Vidarbha can overcome its farmer suicide crisis if the dairy sector is developed. Gadkari said this while addressing the inaugural session of 15th ‘Agrovision’ exhibition, being held at the PDKV Ground, Dabha. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav inaugurated the mega event in presence of Panjabrao Deshmukh Agricultural University Vice Chancellor Dr Sharad Gadakh, MPKV Rahuri Vice Chancellor Dr P G Patil, MAFSU Nagpur Vice Chancellor Dr Nitin Patil, Mahindra Tractors CEO Vikram Wagh, Crop Care Federation President Deepak Shah, and other dignitaries.
Gadkari highlighted the significant progress made by Mother Dairy, which has established a milk processing plant in
Nagpur with an investment of Rs 538 crore. He shared that Mother Dairy currently collects five lakh liters of milk everyday from local farmers and envisioned a future where this number increases to one crore liters. Achieving such a target, he asserted, would ensure no farmer in Vidarbha resorts to suicide.
In his address, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav spoke about a cow-based economy, proposing that farmers should raise calves instead of distributing cows indiscriminately. He explained that this approach would improve milk productivity and foster a sustainable agricultural economy. At the outset, Organising Secretary Ravi Boratkar emphasized Agrovision’s mission to empower farmers and highlighted key sessions on dairy, orange production, and IT in agriculture. The programme concluded with the release of a directory listing all participants and a vote of thanks by Dr C D Mayee.
