It was a joyous moment for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers of Nagpur South as the sitting MLA of the constituency Mohan Mate registered a narrow victory against Indian National Congress’s (INC) candidate Girish Pandav on Saturday late evening.
Mate got the highest 1,17,526 votes whereas Pandav got 1,01,868 votes. The sitting MLA of Nagpur South won the battle against Pandav by a margin of 15,658 votes.
It was Mate’s second consecutive win against Pandav after 2019 Assembly elections. In previous election, Mate got 84,339 votes and Pandav bagged 80,326 votes. Mate won the 2019 election by a difference of 4,013 votes.
Bahujan Samah Party (BSP) candidate Sanjay Somkuwar secured only 1,970 votes from Nagpur South constituency on Saturday. Total 1,285 voters pressed the NOTA button.
On election day, total 56.20% voters exercised their franchise which was almost 6.20% more than 2019 Assembly election. Nagpur South, which is a stronghold for BJP, got a tough fight from Pandav in the election.
In the evening, when the scenario of results were getting clear, the workers and supporters of Mohan Mate started gathering near Bachat Bhavan and after the results they started celebration with colours and firecrackers.
Out of 26 rounds of counting, Mate took the lead from the very first round which lasted till the end.
