Change is the crux of any technology and people too have learned the technique of adopting new things. Sometimes one gets bored by new technology and starts going back to old type. In this mobile era, there are several people comfortable with the landline phones. Picking that particular point, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has decided to reintroduce its landline phones, but in a different way. The handsets are same but there is a change in technology of its operation. In the era where mobility is the key, the state run enterprise is leverage fibre to claim back the leadership position in competitive telecommunication market.
Most people have stopped using landline phones where BSNL had the monopoly, due to resurgence of mobile phones. A lot of heavy construction works added to the woes and these copper cables have disappeared inside the soil. Revival of those wires and connecting them is a bit difficult task.
Considering that aspect, BSNL now has started upgrading these landline phones that are connected through fibre.
“We are upgrading the present landline
phones to Fibre based FTTH phones at no
extra cost to the customer and many people though use them sparingly, still its utility in
case of emergency is of utmost importance.
The customer has to choose suitable tariff plan who gets high speed fibre internet service and unlimited voice calls for free. These customers can also enjoy movie and other entertainment shows by attaching these phones to TV,” elaborated Yash Panhekar, Principal General Manager, BSNL, Nagpur district while talking to
‘The Hitavada’.
BSNL is offering its existing customers a window where they can upgrade their existing landlines or broadband connection to fibre to the home (FTTH) service. It will help BSNL improve its finances also as according to it, it is likely to bring jump in FTTH connections.
“BSNL is offering the scheme to even those customers who have already surrendered their landline connections. The connections which have closed long ago may be reactivated and converted to fiber connections. We are allowing customers to keep old phone numbers which is their identity. Since the voice quality and convenience is higher in landline phones, there is still good demand particularly for business requirements and among senior citizens. Such customers who opt to upgrade their landline phones to FTTH will get a discount of Rs 200 per month for up to six months”, said Panhekar.
BSNL WiFi roaming service soon
The quality of internet service of fibre internet (FTTH) is unmatched for which BSNL provides speed from 100 to 1000 mbps. The customers mostly use WiFi of their devices to access internet. Now, BSNL has started providing Wifi roaming service across city and rural areas.
Internet Fibre TV service
The customer has to simply input his own password and access it for which the billing will be done to customer himself.
To provide quality content to its FTTH customers, BSNL is in the process of starting IFTV service at no extra cost to customer. Over 350 Free-To-Air channels will be provided and customer will have choice to further opt for pay channels, OTT channels as per its actual tariff.
