WITH the withdrawal of a few candidates from the fray in Hingna Legislative Assembly constituency the electoral battle picture has become totally clear. On Monday, eight candidates withdrew their nominations and narrowed the field to 18 contenders for the position of MLA. The primary contest is set to be a fierce battle between the incumbent BJP MLA, Sameer Meghe, and NCP (SP) leader and former minister Rameshchandra Bang. In the 2019 elections, Meghe secured the victory with 1,21,305 votes (54.0%), while NCP’s Vijay Ghodmare, who previously held the seat in 2009, garnered 75,138 votes (33.5%). This year, Meghe, who has represented Hingna since 2014, faces a robust challenge from Bang, whose experience as a former minister could sway voter sentiment. In addition to the main contenders, several candidates from various political parties are also in the fray.

Dr Devendra Kaikade from the Bahujan Samaj Party and Bijaram Kinkar from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena are among those competing for votes. Other candidates include Aniruddha Shewale from the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, Narendra Dhone of the Azad Samaj Party, Adv. Nasim Alam from the People’s Party of India (Democratic), and Madhuru Vijendra Rajput representing the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist). The Independent candidates include Dr Ashish Somankar, Tushar Derkar, Nitesh Khadse, Pankaj Thakre, Salim Sheikh, Sudhakar Wakde, and Sangita Hadke.
