The land, previously part of the narrow-gauge railway from Gorakhpur to Gwarighat, will now be available for creating an alternative route to Gwarighat and other developmental projects in Jabalpur

The long-standing issue of narrow-gauge railway land from Chhoti Line Phatak to Gwarighat in Jabalpur has finally been resolved. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has instructed the Railway Board to transfer this land for public use. This significant decision came following continuous efforts by State Public Works Department Minister Rakesh Singh. It may be noted that the land, previously part of the narrow-gauge railway from Gorakhpur to Gwarighat, will now be available for creating an alternative route to Gwarighat and other developmental projects in Jabalpur. Union Minister Vaishnaw approved the transfer under a "land-for-land" agreement after discussion with State PWD Minister Singh in New Delhi.

The broad-gauge railway project connecting Jabalpur to Gondia rendered the narrow-gauge line defunct. The land remained unused, encouraged local authorities to explore options for its repurposing. In a meeting held at the Jabalpur Circuit House, a proposal was made to exchange this land with land in village Gadheri, owned by the state government. When initially submitted to the Railway Board, the proposal was sent back for re-evaluation due to discrepancies in land valuations. However, after further discussions Union Minister Vaishnaw recognised the immense utility of the land for public welfare and approved the transfer. PWD Minister Singh said the land transfer will pave way for a new route from Gorakhpur to Gwarighat, significantly enhancing connectivity for the residents.

Likewise, the land will be used for other developmental initiatives, which will boost local infrastructure and economic activities. Singh expressed gratitude to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for his approval of the land transfer. He said this achievement marks a milestone for Jabalpur. The transfer of the land ensures a brighter future for the city and addressed a long-standing demand for better access to Gwarighat while enabling further development.
