TWO BJP MPs suffered head injuries in a face-off between the Opposition and NDA members in Parliament premises on Thursday and were admitted to the ICU of the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital here. Pratap Sarangi (69) from Odisha and Mukesh Rajput from Uttar Pradesh were brought to the hospital from Parliament with head injuries, the hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Ajay Shukla said. “Sarangi was bleeding profusely. He had a deep cut on his forehead and it had to be stitched. His blood pressure and anxiety level were high when he was brought in,” the doctor said. “Rajput also had aheadinjuryimmediatelyafter which he lost consciousness.
 
However, the MP was in his senses when he was brought tothehospital.Hisbloodpressure levels had also shot up,” Dr Shukla said. Themedicalsuperintendent of the RML Hospital said both the MPs have been administered medicines to manage theirbloodpressure,painand anxiety while investigations like CT scan of the head and cardiac tests were underway. “Both of the marein ICU.We are trying to stabilise them,” the doctor said. ACCUSING the BJP of lowering the dignity of Parliament, the Congress on Thursday claimed that BJP MPs pushed its chief Mallikarjun Kharge and “physically manhandled” Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. In a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, senior Congress MPs asked him to initiate an inquiry into the incident. Separate marches by Opposition and ruling party MPs over the alleged insult to B R Ambedkar led to jostling in Parliament premises in the morning, leaving BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput injured. The BJP accused Rahul Gandhi of pushing the senior member, a charge rejected by the Congress leader. Several Congress leaders, including Kharge,RahulGandhi,Gaurav Gogoi and K C Venugopal, spoke on the matter. The Congress said BJP MPs had sticks in their hands and Kharge was threatened and pushed. Kharge, Leader of OppositionintheRajyaSabha, wrote to Birla,claiminghewas physically pushed by BJP MPs in Parliament premises following which he lost his balance.“I wasphysicallypushed by BJP MPs; lost my balance and was forced to sit down on ground in front of Makar Dwar... This inflicted injuries on my knees which have already undergone surgery,” Kharge said. KhargeaskedtheSpeakerto order an inquiry into the BJP MPs “pushing” him, and said it was an assault not just on himbutontheRajyaSabhaLoP and the Congress president. “I was trying to enter Parliament and the BJP MPs werestoppingme,pushingme and threatening me,” Rahul Gandhi told reporters in Parliament premises. In their letter to Birla, some seniorCongressMPs saidthey were writing to express their “deep anguish” over the incident that happened when membersoftheINDIAalliance werepeacefullyprotestingand marching from the Dr BabasahebAmbedkarstatueto Makar Dwar. “However, as we attempted to enter the Parliament through Makar Dwar,theprotestingMPswere physically obstructed from entering,”saidthelettersigned by Congress MPsKC Venugopal,KodikunnilSuresh, Ravindra Chavan Dean KuriakoseandVKSreekandan. “We would also like to bring to your notice that Shri Rahul Gandhi Leader of Opposition wasphysicallymanhandledby three MPs from the ruling party. Thisisaclearviolationofthe privileges extended to the Leader of Opposition and infringesontherightsaccorded to him in his official capacity as an MP,” they said. The delegation of Congress MPs,includingDigvijaySingh, Mukul Wasnik, Rajiv Shukla and Pramod Tiwari, filed the complaint visiting the station in person, the officer said. A delegation of BJP leaders was stillinsideNew DelhiDCP Devesh Kumar Mahla’s office there,whentheCongressleaders camewith their complaint and were asked to wait inside the ACP’s room.
