The first edition of MKH Sancheti Inter-School Chess Championship got under way on Wednesday. The event was inaugurated in a glittering function held at MKH Sancheti Public School, Wardha Road.
The event has attracted 207 entries with 78 FIDE Rated players. The event is being organised by Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation in association with MKH Sancheti Public School which is recognised by Chess Association Nagpur.
Nagpur’s star player Sanskruti Wankhede played a move on chess board to mark the opening of event. Chief guest of the inauguration function was Girish Vyas, Vice-President, Maharashtra Chess Association and President Chess Association Nagpur. Amit Yenurkar, Director, MKH Sancheti Public School presided over.
SS Soman, Member, MCA Observer Committee and Bhushan Shriwas, Secretary, Chess Association Nagpur were present on the dais.
Vyas, in his inaugural address, appreciated the efforts of Yenurkar in organising the event and invited him to get associated with chess activities. Shyam Agrawal conducted the proceedings and proposed a vote of thanks.
Cash Prizes of Rs. 30,000 -- sponsored by MKH Sancheti Public School are at stake. Besides cash prizes, trophies for top five in main prize list of boys and girls separately along with age group categories of Under 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15 shall be awarded. Top two schools shall also be awarded shields.
Arbiters comprising FA Shiva Iyer, FA Amit Tembhurne, FA Sagar Sakhare, FA Bharati Dhote, SNA Shyam Agrawal, SNA Shrikant Bagde, SNA Prayas Ambade, Prathamesh Machave are tournament officials.
