DHARMENDRA Kumar
a seasoned marathoner from the city, completed the Tata Steel World 25km Marathon in Kolkata last Sunday with a time of 2:35:47.
With this achievement, Kumar has accomplished the prestigious Procam Slam champion challenge, which involves completing four major marathon races in a single calendar year.
In 2024, Kumar successfully finished the Tata Mumbai Marathon (42.195km), TCS World 10km in Bengaluru, Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon (21km), and now the Kolkata event. He has a remarkable running career, having completed 36 marathons, including 12 full marathons. His notable full marathon finishes include five Tata Mumbai Marathons, two Satara Night Challenge Marathons, two Nagpur Marathons, and single finishes in
Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.
Earlier this year, he successfully completed the L&T Sea Bridge Marathon (42.195km) at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Trans Harbour Link in Mumbai with a timing of 5:24:07, staying within the cut-off time.
Beyond traditional marathons, Kumar has established himself as an accomplished ultra-marathoner. His feats include an 86km 12-hour Stadium Run in Mumbai (2018), a 120km 24-hour Stadium Run (2019), and a 76km Mumbai Ultra 12-hour Run on Independence Day in 2019. He has also excelled in multi-sport events, completing the Nagpur Duathlon (10km run, 40km cycling, 5km run) in 2020.
Kumar’s cycling achievements include earning the Super Randonneur (SR) title in 2018 by completing a series of brevets—200km, 300km, 400km, and 600km—within a calendar year.
