THE 45th Maharashtra Masters Athletic
Meet began at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University’s synthetic track on Friday.
The event was inaugurated by social worker Sachin Sharma in presence of Dominic Savio, Secretary, MAFI.
The three-day event will conclude on December 29. Helen Joseph, Sudhakar Patil, Sharda Naidu, and Chandrashekhar Pathrabe were also present during evening session.
A total of 388 athletes from 13 districts are competing in various track and field events across age categories ranging from 30+ to 92+. The oldest participants include a 92-year-old male and an 82-year-old female athlete. Nagpur is hosting the largest contingent, with 125 athletes representing the district. The event also features Ishwar Deshmukh, a Nagpur native currently residing in Oman, competing in the 55+ category.
The Nagpur District Masters Athletic Association has arranged lodging and boarding for participants. Medical assistance is being provided by Nagpur Municipal Corporation. Event officials are from Ishwar Deshmukh College of Physical Education, overseen by Technical Committee Chief Dr Ashok Kapta.
The formal opening ceremony is scheduled for December 28.
