The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief, Dr Mohan Bhagwat, during his visit to Chhattisgarh, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to societal welfare and character-building. Engaging with senior officials and karyakartas, he underlined the importance of humanitarian service as a cornerstone of the RSS philosophy. In Chhattisgarh, several service initiatives have been actively operational under the aegis of RSS and its affiliated bodies. These include 99 service projects by Seva Bharati, ranging from shelters for orphaned and abandoned children to girls’ hostels and health centres. Facilities such as Matru Chhaya in cities like Raipur, Bilaspur, and Jagdalpur provide comprehensive care, including education and health services.

 

Additionally, centres for tailoring, computer training, and health clinics serve underprivileged communities across the state. Dr Bhagwat remarked that service is not just a duty but an inherent part of Indian tradition. He referenced foundational RSS values like “Sarva Dharma Sama Vrutti” (equal regard for all religions) and the cultivation of collective well-being. These principles, he noted, are central to the RSS’s approach in fostering national unity and social harmony. The organisation also promotes educational initiatives, including English-medium schools and moral education centres. In Raipur, 61 branches conduct daily and weekly service activities, ranging from cleanliness drives to health camps. Additionally, 54 branches across the state organise at least two major community events annually, including literature distribution, shared meals in underserved areas, and health check-ups. Dr Bhagwat lauded the dedication of volunteers who tirelessly engage in these efforts. Their actions, he stated, exemplify the RSS’s vision of creating a harmonious and empowered society.
