Hanumantal police have succeeded in apprehending four of the six accused involved in killing of a man by firing bullet and seized two pistols and two scooters used in the incident.
The arrested have been identified as Chirag Rakesh Sonkar (22), a resident of Bhantalaiyya in Belbagh; Sahil alias Lalla Manoj Sonkar (21), a resident of Khatik Mohalla in Ghamapur; Babbu alias Manas Ravi Ben (18, a resident of Peer Ji Ka Bagicha in Cantt and Vishal Dharmraj Sonkar (23), a resident of Chhoti Omti, Bhartipur while two other accused Gautam Sonkar and Raja Gupta are still at large.
Additional SP (City), Anand Kaladgi disclosed this while addressing a press conference, on Monday. He informed that on December 27, Karan Kushwaha lodged a complaint detailing the fatal shooting of his friend Yash Mali. Karan informed that he, along with his friends Yash Mali and Rahul Raikwar, was sitting in front of his house near bonfire. During this time, two men repeatedly passed by on a black scooter, identified as Raja Gupta from Premsagar and Babbu Ben, who reside with Gautam Sonkar.
Soon after, three more men arrived on a green and white Activa scooter from the Durga Chowk area. The scooter was driven by Sahil Sonkar, with Chirag Sonkar sitting in the middle and Gautam Sonkar at the back. Chirag Sonkar was holding a pistol.
The trio started abusing them.
When Yash objected to the abuse, Chirag shot at him to kill. Frightened Karan and another friend ran inside the house witnessed Chirag Sonkar repeatedly firing at Yash Mali while Raja Gupta and Babbu Ben arrived on the black scooter shouting to kill him.
After a few minutes, Karan stepped outside and found Yash lying on the road, bleeding profusely. He had sustained gunshot wounds to both legs and his back. Yash was rushed to the medical college in Jabalpur, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
ASP, Kaladgi informed that the motive was an old rivalry. A joint team from Hanumantal, Belbagh, Omti and Crime Branch police conducted an investigation, leading to the arrest of Sahil Sonkar, Chirag Sonkar, Babbu Ben and Vishal Sonkar. The accused confessed to their involvement, revealing that the attack was planned to take revenge of old rivalry.
Police have seized two country-made pistols, two cartridges and two scooters used in the crime. Efforts are underway to apprehend the absconding accused, Gautam Sonkar and Raja Gupta.
