With Undergraduate (UG) courses like Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) to be regulated by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) from 2024-25 onwards, engineering colleges too can impart those courses and open admissions. The existing colleges offering BBA, BCA courses have to get affiliated to AICTE. Dr Raman Madne, Deputy Registrar with Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has sent the circular to all the principals of the colleges running these two courses to get themselves affiliated to AICTE. The new approval process handbook of AICTE will remain valid for three years from 2024-25 to 2026-27.

Dr Rajendra Kakde, Advisor to AICTE told ‘The Hitavada’, “Engineering colleges will be able to admit students in BBA, BCA. Secondly, the existing colleges having these courses can increase their intake provided they have the set-up as per AICTE norms. New colleges interested in applying to get the courses can’t get increased intake immediately.” Prof P B Maheshwary, Dean of Science and Engineering, RTMNU explained, “This is a good step as far as students issues are concerned.

As per Washington Accord, now globally uniformity is being maintained when it comes to affiliation of courses. Till now, post graduation in management was under AICTE while its under graduate courses were under Commerce faculty. Students going abroad with BBA or BCA and MBA used to suffer a lot. Now UG and PG both would be under AICTE so students will not face any problem of eligibility.” Engineering colleges were not allowed to admit students in non-AICTE courses. With new affiliation rule, engineering colleges can now get these management UG courses. The approval process is going on. AICTE is already regulating post-graduate (PG) programmes like Master in Business Administration (MBA) and Master in Computer Applications (MCA).
