MOMINPURA Football Club scored a goal in each half as they beat Taj Club 2-1 to move up in the JSW NDFA Super Division Football tournament being organised by Nagpur District Football Association (NDFA) at its Dr Ambedkar Football Stadium in Suyog Nagar. The win, second from seven matches took Mominpura to the fifth spot in the 10-team points table. They have earlier won one game and drew three and had lost two.
On Sunday, Mominpura boys looked determined and played an attacking game. They shot into lead in the 16th minute when Mohammad Shafique scored the opening goal. Taj Club tried hard to score the leveller but could not do so in the first half as Mominpura took a slender one goal lead. In the second half, Mohammad Sharif (52nd) doubled the lead for Mominpura scoring from a solo effort. Taj Club managed to pull one back in the 62nd minute through Faizan Ahmed’s goal but that was the only goal they could score in the match.
SPORTIANS WIN OPENER
Sportians Football Club registered a win in the opening match of the Senior Division tournament which got under way on Sunday. Sportians defeated Nobel Football Club by a solitary goal. The all important goal was scored by Deepak Sharma in the 72nd minute of play. Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated in presence of Abid Khan, (Vice President, NDFA, Kamal Ansari, Abdul Shahid and Jabir Khan.
