SENSATION prevailed in Ajni area after three anti-socials brutally killed a dreaded goon with sharp-edged knives and a ‘Trishul’ in full public view at Naik Nagar turning near Manewada petrol pump on Wednesday afternoon. The daylight killing of the goon was the tenth such murder in the past 12 days raising several eyebrows about the law and order situation in the Second Capital. The free run the goons are having on the city streets and inter-gang rivalries spilling out in the open is posing a serious challenge to the police force. In the latest incident in Ajni, the deceased Suraj alias Bihari Amir Mahato (26), a resident of Balaji Nagar, had faced externment from the city and district for two years in July-August last. Around 11.30 am on Wednesday, Suraj was allegedly doling out threats to one of the three accused Ramkumar Gupta on phone at his house. His friend Ankit Kailash Wankhede (27) was also with him at his house.

After a few minutes, Suraj asked Ankit to accompany him on his Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle. When they reached Naik Nagar turning on Omkar Nagar and Manewada Ring Road, Bipinkumar and two of his accomplices were already standing in front of Naman Footwear Stores. Suraj got down from the bike and caught hold of Bipinkumar questioning him as to how he dared to abuse him.  Bipinkumar’s accomplices then surrounded Suraj and suddenly attacked him with knives and a ‘Trishul’ causing serious injuries on his neck and abdomen. Suraj tried to run away and entered the house of one Shyam Vitthal Sirsat on the roadside and collapsed. An autorickshaw driver passing by informed about the incident to ASI (Traffic) Kamalkant Rokde who was deployed at Manewada Chowk. ASI Rokde and his colleague Constable Sandhya Dhoke rushed to the spot on their bike. They saw Suraj’s motorcycle lying on the roadside. The bystanders informed them that Suraj’s body was lying in a pool of blood at Sirsat’s house and the killers just fled the spot. ASI Rokde drove his motorbike in the same direction in which the killers escaped and succeeded in nabbing Bipinkumar.

ASI Rokde immediately informed the Police Control Room about the murder. Soon, staff from Ajni Police Station and senior police officers arrived at the spot. Cops took Bipinkumar into custody and sent Suraj’s body to the Government Medical College & Hospital for post-mortem. Sources said that accused Bipinkumar, who is a vegetable vendor, allegedly was after a girl whom Suraj used to treat as his sister. Suraj allegedly had threatened Bipinkumar of dire consequences if he failed to stay away from the girl, added the sources. On the complaint of Ankit Wankhede, friend of the deceased, Ajni Police registered a case under Sections 302, 34 of the IPC against the killers and launched a manhunt for Bipinkumar’s accomplices.
