Maharashtra Government has approved an outlay of Rs 1,886.91 crore for Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) for the next financial year. NMRDA has been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing planned development in the 700 villages which are rappidly getting urbanised. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde chaired a meeting of Urban Development Department (UDD) at Sahyadri Guest House, Mumbai, on Thursday, wherein NMRDA budget was taken up for discussion. Deputy Chief Minister and Nagpur's Guardian Minister Devendra Fadnavis was also present at the meet. The focus of NMRDA outlay is on strengtgthening underground sewerage system for 25 villages under Phase-II of Amrut Yojana for which a sum of Rs 716 crore has been earmarked. Under this, all the existing pipelines would be replaced to meet the modern standards.

 

As per details, the underground sewerage system is going to be laid in South B and East A section and it is envisaged that total length of the pipelines will be 500 km. The scheme will have four sewerage treatment plants and one pump house. During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed NMRDA to expedite the ongoing development works. NMRDA has also taken-up regularisation work in the area along side the city limits where residential localities have come-up in large numbers. Further another agenda on the meeting was about sanction to Phase-III development of various works at Koradi Jagdamba Temple, Deekshabhoomi development, Cancer Hospital, basic civic amenities in Hingna area.

 

The budget of Rs 1186.91 crore also envisages paying the compensation to flood victims, taking-up road development projects, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, construction of sewerage treatment plant at Shree Kshetra Dhapewada and development of tourism facilities at various places in district. The Cancer Hospital project has been in pipeline since long and is going to be located in Government Medical College and Hospital campus. Now NMRDA has started the basic work for the hospital that would help the cancer patients, especially those belonging to economically weaker sections of society, to get affordable treatment. Similarly, development works at Deekshabhoomi have started and are in full swing. Chief Secretary Dr Nitin Kareer, Commissioner, NMRDA, Manoj Kumar Suryawanshi and other officials were also present at the meeting.
