Education Minister Brijmohan Agrawal has announced promotions of senior lecturers to the posts of principals in the schools during question hour in Assembly. BJP MLA Rikesh Sen raised a question about the promotion of teachers, particularly highlighting the situation in the Durg district, where over 250 schools are functioning with in-charge principals due to more than 1,500 vacant posts. Responding to this query, Minister Agrawal acknowledged the delay in the promotion process, attributing it to the non-receipt of confidential reports (CRs) for over 50,000 teachers among the 2.5 lakh teachers in State. He assured that the promotion process would be expedited, with 4,000 posts already filled through completed recruitment procedures. Initially stating that promotions would be finalised within a year, Minister Agrawal later committed to completing the process within six months following Speaker Raman Singh’s intervention.

Furthermore, Minister Agrawal announced in the Assembly that MA graduates in the Chhattisgarhi language would now have opportunities for government jobs. He revealed that State is currently in the process of recruiting 33,000 teachers, with provisions for those who have pursued an MA in Chhattisgarhi. This announcement was made in response to Congress MLA Kunwar Singh Nishad’s inquiry regarding education in the Chhattisgarhi language. Minister Agrawal clarified that presently, Hindi teachers cover Chhattisgarhi instruction, citing the absence of a distinct script for the language.

However, Agrawal affirmed the government’s plans to introduce education not only in Chhattisgarhi but also in other local languages such as Halbi, Surgujiha, and Sadri. To support this initiative, a curriculum has been developed, and MA graduates in Chhattisgarhi are slated to be recruited as teachers. Minister Agrawal emphasised the emotional significance of promoting education in regional languages while necessitating the importance of ensuring students’ competitiveness on national and international platforms.
