IN yet another successful operation by Singhoda police of the district, a significant amount of gold pieces, jewellery and cash were seized from a car during a routine checking drive at the Rehtikhol inter-state check-post. As much as 837.240 gram of gold jewellery, valued at Rs 50.23 lakh, along with cash amounting to Rs 19.50 lakh, was recovered under section 102. The case has been promptly reported to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for further investigation and action. During the routine checking at the interstate check-post, Singhoda police intercepted a Scorpio vehicle with two occupants. Upon inquiry about the contents of the vehicle, they initially attempted to mislead the police.
However, they later confessed to transporting gold. Upon inspection of the vehicle, police discovered four gold pieces. Acting on the information provided by the occupants, two another persons travelling on motorcycle ahead of them were intercepted, leading to the discovery of gold jewelery and cash concealed in a packet. Both the suspects were served notices under section 91 of the Criminal Procedure Code to produce documents related to the gold and cash. As they failed to provide the required documents, the police recovered the gold and cash. In addition to the seizure of assets, a Scorpio vehicle valued at Rs 8 lakh, a motorcycle valued at Rs 80,000, and five mobile handsets valued at Rs 1.25 lakh were seized during the operation. The total value of the recovery amounted to Rs 79.78 lakh.
