UNIT-03 of the Crime Branch arrested two notorious criminals from Delhi who had tricked an elderly woman into giving her gold ornaments worth Rs 2.10 lakh at Dharampeth in Sitabuldi Police Station area last month. The accused are identified as Sanjay Ramlal Solanki (27), a resident of Shiv Vihar Colony, Karala, North-West Delhi, and Govind Ukaram Rathod (49), a resident of Raghuvir Nagar, North Delhi. Contd from page 1 Around 6 pm on January 18, Damayanti Samsher Bahadursingh (69), a resident of Giripeth, had gone to Dharampeth to repair a pressure cooker. Near Gayatri Bhojnalaya, Solanki and Rathod stopped her.
 
They told her that they wanted to help a poor boy. They then engrossed her in conversation. After gaining Damayanti Bahadursingh’s confidence, Solanki and Rathod handed her over a polythene bag saying that it contained Rs five lakh cash. They then tricked her into giving her gold bangles and a gold locket and vanished. When Damayanti Bahadursingh checked the bag, she was shocked to find a note of Rs 500 denomination at the top of the bundle and remaining pieces were blank papers. Following a complaint lodged by the victim, Sitabuldi Police had registered a case under Sections 420, 417 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code against the tricksters.
 
Cops attached to Unit-03 of the Crime Branch started a parallel investigation with their Sitabuldi counterparts and established the identity of the accused. With the assistance of Delhi Cyber Police, they traced the location of the accused duo and trapped Solanki and Rathod. Police recovered two gold bangles, a locket, Rs 49,000 cash and two cellphones from their possession. The arrests were made by API Madhuri Nerkar, PSI Navnath Deokate, ASI Ishwar Khorde and others under the supervision of senior Crime Branch officers.
