Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday virtually inaugurated the terminal buildings of Gwalior and Jabalpur airports in Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and other ministers and leaders were present for the event at Gwalior airport. Speaking on the occasion, Yadav said the inauguration of the new airport at Gwalior named after Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi is a new record of development for changing India. Scindia, while addressing the event, said there are only four airports in Madhya Pradesh, but the number is set to increase to 10 in the coming days. New airports will come up in Rewa, Satna and Datia soon, and airports will also be subsequently developed in Ujjain, Guna and Shivpuri, Scindia said. At present, around 1,000 flights are being operated every week in Madhya Pradesh, which is a significant rise from 490 flights earlier, he said. In a tweet on ‘X’, the Minister said India has scripted history by inaugurating 15 airport terminals together. “The inauguration or laying foundation stones of terminal buildings of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport in Gwalior and 14 other airports by the prime minister made this day historic forever in the history of Indian aviation,” he wrote in the post.

The inauguration of the Gwalior airport, which was completed in the shortest time of just 16 months, is also a historic achievement, he said. These aviation projects have added a new chapter to passenger convenience, he said. PM Modi inaugurated the new terminal building of Dumna Airport, constructed with a cost Rs 412.24 crores, through a video conference, on Sunday. A number of public representatives including Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, State PWD Minister, Rakesh Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha, Sumitra Valmiki and others were present during a programme organied at the airport. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy CM Rajendra Shukla said the grand airport building is a significant gift for Sanskardhani. Ever since Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, there has been remarkable progress in airport and highway connectivity. The country is witnessing economic growth. Previously, India ranked 11th in terms of its economy, but now the country has achieved the 5th position. Shukla said India is on its way to becoming a global leader. Achieving any task requires dedicated efforts, along with skilled manpower. Jabalpur is a center of excellence. Now, it is necessary to transform it into a metropolis.

He said the city is experiencing massive development with improved connectivity. Not only in Jabalpur, but also in smaller cities, airports are being constructed. He on the occasion announced that in the near future, air service will also commence from Rewa. Expressing views on the occasion, State PWD Minister, Rakesh Singh said that as a Member of Parliament, he continuously made efforts for development of the airport. In the past, people used to consider the idea of an airport in Jabalpur as a joke, but today the new terminal building of the airport stands before us. Singh said there was a time when cows used to graze on the small airstrip of Jabalpur. It was through his efforts that air services began in Jabalpur and after that, SpiceJet, Kingfisher, Alliance Air and later IndiGo started their operations here, connecting the city with many other cities through air travel.

Singh said the dream he had seen 20 years ago is now a reality, with completion of the new terminal building, which also showcases the local heritage. He said in coming times, Jabalpur's connectivity will increase. Jabalpur has become a major city. Along with the zoological park, an ultra-modern and convenient new railway building worth Rs 460 crores will also be built in the city. The PWD Minister further said if Prime Minister Modi was not in power, Jabalpur Airport would not have achieved this form. He extended gratitude to PM Modi. On the occasion, Rajya Sabha MPs Vivek Krishna Tankha and Sumitra Balmeeki also stressed for collective efforts towards the overall development of Jabalpur. Earlier, senior officials of the Airport Authority provided a detailed account of the achievements in the airport sector. During the time, people watched and listened to the live telecast of Prime Minister Modi's programme. After the inauguration programme, all guests also visited the newly constructed terminal building of the airport.
