RAIPUR,
THE announcement of Vishnu Deo Sai as Chhattisgarh’s fourth Chief Minister came as no surprise to those closely monitoring political developments. Party workers and leaders celebrated his selection, recognising his two terms as State unit president and years of parliamentary representation. Sai’s reputation for honesty, simplicity, and straightforwardness has endeared him to the people, shaping his political legacy. His elevation to the chief ministerial role reflects his dedication to public service and vision for the State’s progress. Those familiar with Sai perceive him as a leader who has redefined the essence of politics and public service, infusing it with sincerity and integrity. In a conversation with ‘The Hitavada’, Vishnu Deo Sai, the first tribal Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, provided insights into his Government’s vision, achievements, and plans for the State’s development. Sai’s leadership reflects his experience in public service a commitment to welfare, inclusivity and embodying the essence of progress for Chhattisgarh.
Reflecting on his Government’s initial months in power, Sai expressed satisfaction with the progress made. With three months completed since taking office, the Government has conscientiously working towards fulfilling promises made during the election campaign. Sai acknowledged the support received from both people of Chhattisgarh and Centre, emphasising a shared approach towards governance. When asked about his Government continuing the schemes of the previous Governments, Sai affirmed his Government’s intention to continue flagship schemes initiated by previous administrations, irrespective of political affiliations. Schemes like the Charan Paduka that was started by the previous BJP Government and discontinued by the Congress will be reinstated. However, Sai emphasised on a fair and impartial review of schemes introduced by the Congress Government, with decisions made based on merit rather than bias.
He was of the view that some of the schemes including the Flagship scheme of the Congress Government had merit in it but they failed to implement it with transparency and honest intent. “During the Congress tenure, they had turned every scheme into a breeding ground for corruption,” stated the Chief Minister. Chief Minister Sai outlined the Government’s economic initiatives, including direct benefit schemes for farmers and women, amounting to significant contributions to the State’s economy. Plans for education, healthcare, and civic administration prioritise quality services and access for all citizens. The Chief Minister emphasised on his Government’s dedication to uplifting marginalised communities, particularly women, farmers, tribals, and labourers. Programmes like the Mahtari Vandan Yojana illustrate this commitment of the Government by providing financial aid to women, promoting their healthcare, nutrition, and self-esteem. Notably, funds under this scheme have already been disbursed to 70 lakh women, totalling Rs 655 crore in the first installment alone.
The Government has allocated Rs 3,716 crore as a two-year bonus to 13 lakh farmers on the occasion of Atal ji’s birthday and Good Governance Day in December. Furthermore, through the Krishak Unnati Yojana, Rs 13,320 crore has been transferred to the bank accounts of 24 lakh 75 thousand farmers for paddy procurement this year, ensuring their welfare and agricultural progress, stated the Chief Minister. This year, in accordance with Prime Minister Modi’s assurance, paddy was procured at Rs 3,100 per quintal and 21 quintals per acre, setting a new record for paddy procurement in the State. A total of 145 lakh metric tonnes of paddy were purchased, with immediate payment of the support price to farmers. An amount of Rs 32,000 crore was transferred to farmers’ bank accounts as part of this support price initiative. Through various direct benefit schemes, over Rs 50 thousand crore has been injected into the State economy within a span of three months. This accomplishment is attributed to the double engine BJP Government, emphasising the effectiveness of a synergistic governance approach, stated the Chief Minister.
Drawing inspiration from former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s emphasis on good governance, Sai reiterated the Government’s commitment to this principle. Leveraging technology and ensuring timely delivery of services are key priorities, said Sai adding that a vision document for the State’s development is being prepared, with a focus on eradicating corruption and enhancing public trust. Sai highlighted the strides made towards fulfilling the late Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s vision for Chhattisgarh. Acknowledging the State’s progress under previous BJP administration, Sai expressed determination to build on past achievements and address challenges. Addressing the persistent threat of Naxalism, Sai emphasised that his Government is ready for dialogue with the Naxalites while remaining vigilant against violence. Efforts to integrate Naxals into mainstream society continue, alongside security measures aimed at safeguarding citizens and promoting development in affected areas.
The Chief Minister said that there cannot be any compromise on the safety of the people and their property. The Government wants to accelerate development as an inclusive effort in all parts of the State. Speaking about the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Sai expressed confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and its electoral appeal. The BJP’s proactive approach in candidate selection reflects strategic foresight, contrasting with perceived indecision within the Congress party.
