Edn institute of eminent group to come up at Bhandewadi

To position Nagpur city as global education hub, Maharashtra Government has given its nod to Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) for leasing land parcel of 18.35 Ha in Bhandewadi for setting-up an education institute of eminence. NMC had sent a proposal to Urban Development Department (UDD) stating its intention to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M/s Vile Parle Kelvani Mandal, Mumbai, a prominent education institution of the metropolis. As per NMC’s plan, the land parcel is going to be provided to Vile Parle at lesser than market rate. The lease for the premium land parcel would be for a period of 30 years. Bhandewadi in East Nagpur had been infamous for a long time because of the presence of garbage dumping yard. However, over the years, technology has been leveraged effectively to downsize the legacy waste. The huge land thus freed is being eyed for developing an educational hub by the current rulers in Maharashtra.
Over the last few years, systematic steps were taken to tap educational groups having firm presence in cities of Pune and Mumbai, and well-known for their expertise in offering quality education. Already, the Pune-based Symbiosis Institute has set-up its centre for excellence in Wathoda-Bhandewadi area and it is a hit among the students in the country. Also, some international students have been admitted in institutes of Architect, Management and Law functioning from Wathoda campus. The same pattern is going to be followed in case of Vile Parle. Here, however, the thrust will be on school as well as college education.
As to Vile Parle, it is a well known society that runs hosts of prominent education institutes in Mumbai area, notable among them in Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics and Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, one of the most sought after college for management education and it figures in top 10 Business Colleges of country. The society was formed in year 1930 and it runs over two dozen institutes running courses of law, commerce, arts, science, pharmacy, technology, polytechnic. They also run a couple of schools including one of Military School at Shirur in Dhule district.
As per the notification of UDD, a committee headed by Municipal Commissioner, NMC, will decide the annual lease fees as well as security fee. The committee is empowered to provide concession for determining lease amount that could be lower than ready reckoner rate. Since Municipal Commissioner is President of Rent and Deposit Determination Committee, its decision will be considered final. It may be remembered that NMC House had adopted a resolution on June 28, 2023, for earmarking 18.35 Ha of land in Bhandewadi for setting-up an education institute of eminence having course from Nursery to Higher Education. Going by experience of Symbiosis, the MoU that would later inked with M/s Vile Parle would have a clause about reserving some seats in each of the courses for locals, means students of Nagpur city.
