Filing nomination is a part of election process, mainly election results hold curiosity after the announcement of party candidates. But Kamal Nath’s son Nakul Nath’s nomination formality drew much attention in the political circle of the State. Till now, more than a dozen nomination forms have been submitted in the State. On the very first day of Nakul Nath’s nomination, BJP leaders and spokesperson trained their guns and posed several questions pertaining to his rally to the Collectorate office. In Bhopal, Neha Bagga, Spokesperson of BJP, pointed out Digvijay Singh’s absence on this occasion. She said “It has become clear that Digvijay Singh and Congress’ central leadership has distanced themselves from Kamal Nath and Congress LS candidate from Chhindwara Nakul Nath. It clearly indicates that both have been left abandoned within the party.”

On other hand, Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari and Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar along with hundreads of supporters proceeded for the said constituency on Tuesday. Patwari addressed a public meeting in support of the candidate. Nakul Nath, the lone Congress winner in the last general elections in the State, on Tuesday filed his nomination papers from his traditional Chhindwara constituency, which his father and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath represented for nine terms. He was accompanied by his mother and wife. Before that, the senior and junior Nath worshipped at the Lord Shri Hanuman temple in the town. Some of the BJP leaders called it soft Hindutav while Congressmen reiterated Kamal Nath’s statement that to worship God is not BJP’s patent. Though the Chhindwara seat has been the bastion of the Congress, with the grand old party losing elections here just once, BJP is making all out efforts this time to bag it, and set the target of inducting 50,000 workers from the rival party ahead of the polls as part of its ambitious plan.

In 2019, Nakul Nath won his maiden election from the Chhindwara Lok Sabha seat by over 37,000 votes against BJP’s Nathan Shah. The senior Nath had won from this constituency in 2014 by 1.16 lakh votes against the BJP’s Chandrabhan Singh. Only a few days back Deepak Saxena, a key Kamal Nath aide, resigned from Congress. Political pandits’ doubts about Saxena’s move and termed it may be a strategic step from Nath’s fold. Political landscape is changing swiftly in the region.
