NAGPUR’S Sameeksha Singh won a silver medal in the third edition of National Sub-Junior Boxing Championship that concluded at Shahid Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex, Greater Noida recently. Representing Maharashtra in 52kg weight category finished second best losing the final to Haryana’s Naitik. Fourteen girls and as many boys from Maharashtra took part in the event. Sameeksha was the lone player form Nagpur Division to return with a medal. Other medal winners for the state include — Akola (one silver), Pune (one gold), Satara (one bronze) and Mumbai (one silver).
Sameeksha’s medal winning effort has helped her secure a place in the Indian camp to be held in Rohtak. Indian squad for upcoming international events will picked from the said camp. Sameeksha, who is presently training at Delhi Sports School, has thanked Maharashtra coach Sukanaya Surve for her guidance and manager Lata Indurkar for her support.
