INDIAN Air Force men and Chhattisgarh women emerged champions of the senior categories as it was curtains on the 44th Senior Men, 24th Senior Women, 38th Sub-Junior Boys and 42nd Junior Boys National Cycle Polo Championships. The championship was jointly organised by Nagpur District Amateur Cycle Polo Association, All Maharashtra Cycle Polo Association and Cycle Polo Federation of India. In the sub-junior boys category, Uttar Pradesh claimed the title while in the junior boys section, Chhattisgarh emerged champions. In the men’s championship match Indian Air Force displayed a dominant performace as they thrashed Territorial Army 14-3 to wrest the title.

 

The third place went to Indian Army who defeated Maharashtra 14-0 in a one-sided battle. In women’s section, Chhattisgarh had no difficulty in quelling the challenge from Kerala as they claimed the title with a 4-0 verdict. The third place in the women’s category went to Uttar Pradesh who edged past Maharashtra 3-1. The sub-junior boys final saw Uttar Pradesh fighting it out hard to record an exciting 4-2 win over Chhattisgarh. Kerala won the bronze medal match defeating Telangana by three goals to nil.

 

The junior boys title was won by Chhattisgarh who beat West Bengal by 8-0. UP beat Tamil Nadu 7-0 to finish third.

Prizes were distributed by Sanjay Patil, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime). President of Indian Cycle Polo Federation Air Marshal (Retd) Pradeep Bapat, Rekha Burde, Dr Vinod Jaiswal, Dinesh Sarve, Dr S R Lune, BS Thakre and others were present. Gajanan Burde conducted the programme while Chandrakant Tijare proposed a vote of thanks.
