Resignation of RGPV VC accepted; Rupam Gupta Acting Vice Chancellor

Governor Mangubhai Patel has accepted the resignation submitted by Professor Sunil Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), Bhopal. He has nominated Dr Rupam Gupta, Chairperson of the Faculty of Computer and Information Technology of the University, to fulfill the duties of the Vice Chancellor. Dr Gupta’s nomination will remain in effect until the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor for RGPV.
 
This was the second working tenure of Sunil Kumar Gupta as VC of the only technical university of State. Second working tenure of VC Sunil Kumar was to end in June 2025. An FIR has already been lodged at Gandhi Nagar Police Station against five, including the former VC. After the FIR, former registrar R S Rajput and finance controller Rishikesh Verma are absconding. Even their houses are locked. All the bank accounts of RGPV have been already freezed by the administration in a wake of alleged scam. Especially, Axis Bank and Union Bank accounts were freezed to check the allegations.
 
The university is not allowed to do any kind of transaction from these account without previous consent of the administration. Only salary account is being run for monthly payment of staff. The university is under scanner for around Rs 200 to 250 crore of transactions. Rs 20 crore have been allegedly deposited to a private bank account. A three-member committee comprising Director, Skill Development, Somesh Mishra, Rajesh Verma, Vice Chancellor of Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur, and Pushpalata Shekhar, Financial Advisor of Directorate of Technical Education, was already formed to probe into the matter. In its report, committee has reported suspected of scam.
