A gang of thieves committed a series of bold burglary attempts, targeting ATMs and shops across various locations in the city. The audacious robberies left residents on high alert as the police failed to arrest the perpetrators and prevent further incidents. The brazen robberies by the gang began late in the night, with the first reported incident that took place at Mundhrikar Mobile Shoppe, owned by Kiran Suresh Mundhrikar, a resident of Kanji House Chowk, New Mangalwari.

According to Kiran’s account, the gang attempted to break into the shop around 5 am. However, Kiran’s quick response thwarted their plans as he courageously intervened and hurled a brick at the assailants and cause them to flee the scene. Despite Kiran’s brave act, the thieves managed to make away with eight mobile phones collectivelly of Rs 1.24 lakh. Prior to their failed attempt at Mundhrikar Mobile Shoppe, the thieves targeted a State Bank of India ATM near Power Grid Square in Hingna.

In a bid to evade security measures, they sprayed black paint on CCTV cameras and triggered security alarms. However, their efforts were in vain as they failed to break-open the ATM. Soon after, the gang proceeded to make another attempt at burglary, this time targeting a shop in the Tehsil Police Station area. Despite successfully gaining entry by lifting the shutter, the thieves left the premises without pilfering any valuables, including a laptop and cash that were reportedly within reach. The police suspect the gang’s origin to be from Mewat as their striking modus operandi is similar to gangs hailing from the region. Moreover, the spate of ATM break-in attempts reported not only in Nagpur but also in neighbouring Chandrapur and Warora suggests a coordinated effort by the culprits.
