UNION Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday spoke to the Chief Ministers of West Bengal, Assam and Manipur in the wake of severe losses suffered by the three States due to a storm, and assured them of all possible Central help.
Shah also appealed to the BJP workers in the three States to provide every possible help to the affected people during this hour of distress. “Deeply concerned about the severe loss suffered by West Bengal, Assam, and Manipur due to a storm. Spoke to the Chief Ministers and assured them of all possible assistance. I extend my sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased and pray for the swift recovery of the injured,” he wrote on X.
 
Four people died and over 100 were injured as a storm wreaked havoc in parts of Jalpaiguri district in northern West Bengal on Sunday. Four persons were killed and nearly 53,000 people affected as a thunderstorm wreaked havoc in Assam, officials said. A four-year-old child died and two persons went missing after a boat capsized in the Brahmaputra in South Salmara-Mankachar district on Sunday night, while one each died in Cachar, West Karbi Anglong and Udalguri in storm and lightning related accidents. The storm accompanied by a downpour lashed several parts of the State on Sunday evening, uprooting trees and electric poles and damaging houses, Assam State Disaster Management Authority CEO Gyanendra Dev Tripathi said.
 
There were also reports of rain and hailstorms in several parts of Manipur on Sunday, causing damage to houses, buildings and crops. Several houses and churches have been damaged in Mizoram as heavy rain accompanied with hail lashed parts of the north-eastern State, officials said on Monday. More than 300 houses were damaged by hail at Zohmun and Palsang villages in Aizawl district on Sunday night, they said. A church at Lungtan village in Champhai district collapsed and another at Sialsuk in Aizawl also suffered damages. There were, however, no reports of any injury or death so far.
