BUMPER TO BUMPER.. Indisciplined parking, unauthorised food stalls cause traffic chaos on South Ambazari Road

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Unauthorised food stalls are triggering daily traffic chaos for the commuters on South Ambazari Road. The situation worsened on Tuesday evening due to Hanuman Jayanti celebrations on the main road and commuters were stuck in the traffic jam for an hour. The stretch from the IT Park to Laxmi Nagar Square has become notorious for traffic snarls which leaves citizens stranded for hours due to mismanagement and lack of enforcement. Sources indicate that the root of the issue lies in the large number of food stalls operating with the blessing of the Enforcement Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and the Rana Pratap Nagar Police Station. While passing through the road, one would notice violations of rules as footpaths are fully occupied by these food stall vendors without any action from the authorities. Over 100 food stalls are operating on the street. Workers from nearby IT companies and customers frequently park their vehicles haphazardly on the main road and causes obstructions to traffic flow. The swarm of customers on both sides of the street further exacerbates delays in retrieving their vehicles.

 

Most of these food vendors establish their shops in mini trucks and set up additional materials on the footpaths which includes seating space for customers with chairs and tables. Many customers can be seen arriving in four-wheelers and parking their vehicles on the road which leaves little space for other vehicles to pass. This worsens traffic congestion from IT Park-Mate Square-Laxmi Nagar daily. The situation reached a tipping point on Tuesday evening as the stage was set up on the main road with blaring music for Hanuman Jayanti celebrations. Adding to the chaos, many citizens and even youngsters gathered around the stage and caused a traffic gridlock. Shockingly, officials from Bajaj Nagar, Rana Pratap Nagar, and Ambazari Police Stations seemed unaware of the severity of the traffic chaos.  A resident stated that residents and commuters continuously face the brunt of the traffic chaos. The police must urgently ensure measures to curb undisciplined parking practices and ensure smoother traffic flow for all.
