Drowning of an engineer at the swimming pool of Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) in Ambazari area has triggered widespread allegations of alleged negligence on the part of the administration. The recording of the incident is reportedly missing from the CCTV footage which shocked many. Identified as Kunal Kishore Salpekar (37), a resident of Abhyankar Nagar, the deceased was employed as an engineer in the Marketing Department of L&T Company.
 
According to police, Kunal had been a regular visitor to the swimming pool since October. On Tuesday evening, tragedy struck as he drowned in the tank around 8.30 pm which resulted in his untimely demise. The incident sent shockwaves among fellow swimmers. Although the management was obligated to notify the authorities, it was a police officer present at the scene who alerted the police control room. As a result, the Bajaj Nagar Police were responded to the scene.
 
Upon arrival, the police conducted necessary procedures, including panchnama, before transferring the body to a hospital. A case of accidental death has been registered by the police. The cops have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police Inspector of Bajaj Nagar Police Station, Baliram Sutar said, the police have seized the DVR of the CCTVs to ascertain timeline of the events. The CCTV footage would be scanned to investigate the alleged deletion of the footage. “We are also waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of the death,” Sutar stated.
