The selection trials for kabaddi in the ongoing Khelo India Rising Talent Identification (KIRTI) programme evoked huge response from the players from in and around Vidarbha. Over 140 players participated in the selection trials which was conducted by Khelo India Centre and was organised on the occasion of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University’s Centenary Festival. During the selection trials physical ability and skill test of talented players was conducted. Players showed enthusiasm for the trials held at RTMNU Sports Campus in Ravi Nagar. The KIRTI project in an initiative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Government of India to scout talented athletes at the local level with an aim of producing Olympic gold medalists.
 
With the help of Sports Authority of India, KIRTI has been launched to discover sports talent from across the country.
Students from Gujarat apart from Nagpur, Chimur, Wardha, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Nanded, Buldhana and other districts participated in the selection trials. Arjuna and Dronacharya award winner Paralympian Vijay Munishwar, Senate member of RTMNU Dr Sanjay Chaudhary Director of Department of Sports and Physical Education Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, former director Dr Dhananjay Welukar, Sports Authority of India’s Bhavna Sutar, Dr Aditya Soni, Dr Manoj Ambatkar, Dr Vibekananda Singh, Dr Nitin Jangitwar, Dr Amit Tembhurne, Dr Sudhir Sahare, Dr Bharat Mehta, Sayali Waghmare, Archana Kottewar, Ganesh Wani, Nitin Dhabekar were also present.
 
Kho-Kho trials today
The selection rtrials for Kho-Kho (boys-girls) will be held in Thursday from at 6.30 am onwards at the same venue. Players physical ability and skill tests will be conducted before the trial matches, informs Dr Suryawanshi.
