To check misuse of drugs as intoxicants, the Department of Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Jabalpur, as per instruction of Controller, Drug Administration, Mayank Agrawal, suspended the license of Baldeobagh-based M/S Samaira Associates for not presenting the documents concerned with purchasing and selling of syrup containing codeine. Drug Inspector Devendra Jain and Sharad Jain conducted inspection of this medicine shop recently. During inspection, the firm’s proprietor, Mamta Kori assured to present the record of purchasing of syrup containing codeine. But she avoided to present the required documents or reply to the Office of Food and Drug Administration.
 
According to Drug Inspector Sharad Jain, the Drug Licensing Authority has suspended wholesale license of Samaira Associates till further orders as the concerned firm did not present records of purchasing and selling of codeine containing syrup. During this period, the medicine shop will remain closed, as during suspension period, purchasing and selling of medicines by the firm will be considered completely illegal. If the firm tries to do the same, it will face administrative and court action including cancellation of license.
 
The Food and Drug Administration Department has instructed the wholesale and retail drug dealers of the district to ensure that the Drug and Cosmetic Act and rules are followed while operating the drug shop. Medicine sellers have been asked to sell drugs use for sleeping purpose, abortion and scheduled drugs as per the rules and properly maintain its records. The officers also advised the drug sellers to be alert while selling these drugs which can be misused as an intoxicant. Such medicines should be stored in a proper place and only those drugs should be kept in refrigerator which need cold storage. The drug sellers have also been instructed to separately stock the medicines which are going to be expired in next three months. Simultaneously, the officers warned to take stern action against the drug sellers if they are found indulge in the illegal trade of intoxicant drugs.
