THE two-day district-level athletics meet, organised by Nagpur District Athletics Association in a joint venture with RTMNU, SAI and Khelo India Training Centre received huge response on opening day of the event at RTMNU’s synthetic track. As many as 486 players over the age of 16 years (senior category) turned up for various athletic events. Following events are being held in men and women’s sections — 100m, 200m, 400, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, 10000m and 3000m steeplechases.

 

The throw events include shot put, discus, javelin and hammer. Athletes also took part in long jump, triple jump, high jump and pole vaults. Relays will be held in 4x100 and 4x400m events. Based on the performance of the athletes in this two-day tourney, Nagpur district squad will be picked for the upcoming Senior Maharashtra State Athletics Championships scheduled to be held at the same venue from June 1-3. Jitendra Ghordadekar will head the selection committee.
