In a concerning development, trees are being indiscriminately cut for road construction in the green zone near the Collectorate complex, right under the nose of the district administration. Despite the proximity to administrative offices, the administration appears unaware or inactive, allowing influential individuals to carry out illegal activities with impunity. This negligence has sparked anger among the public, especially considering the government’s annual plantation campaigns aimed at promoting greenery. Despite significant investments in these initiatives, the lack of vigilance from concerned departments has left green zones vulnerable to exploitation. The area in question, once designated as a green zone, was adorned with trees like Arjun, Neem, and Gulmohar, with the administration installing fencing wire to protect them. However, the lax attitude of authorities has emboldened land brokers to brazenly cut down trees and construct roads in restricted zones.

Despite being a main thoroughfare frequented by officers and employees from various departments, including the Collector and Superintendent of Police, no action has been taken against those responsible for illegal tree cutting. This not only poses a threat to forest areas but also harms the environment by depriving it of vital green cover. In response to these developments, SP Vaid, ADM Janjgir Champa, has assured that inquiries are underway to identify the perpetrators, and strict action will be taken against them. However, swift and decisive action is imperative to deter future incidents and uphold environmental protection laws. It’s essential for the administration to demonstrate its commitment to preserving green spaces and holding violators accountable to maintain ecological balance and safeguard the well-being of the community.
