‘Ban Thakre from contesting LS polls’

Bharatiya Janata Party has lodged complaint against Vikas Thakre, Congress candidate for Nagpur Lok Sabha for sharing derogatory video. In its complaint lodged by City President Jitendra alias Bunty Kukde, BJP has demanded strict action against Thakre and to ban him from contesting 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Thakre shared a video on social media where he says, ‘BJP is going to finish the Constitution prepared by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’ and ‘BJP will also finish Deekshabhoomi’. Pointing at this, the complaint by Kukde says, ‘Deekshabhoomi is a pious place, significant not only for Buddhist and Scheduled Caste community but for entire Maharashtra and India.

This place is historically and culturally valuable. His statements are part of his false and baseless propaganda to seek votes but is a clear violation of model code of conduct. He has violated the provision in The Representation of The People’s Act, 1951. The provision says - No appeal for votes by a candidate or his agent or by any other person with the consent of the candidate or his election agent to vote or refrain from voting for any person on the ground of religion, race, caste, community or language. The complaint says, ‘By sharing derogatory and inflammatory video, Vikas Thakre, the Congress candidate of Nagpur Lok Sabha has violated the provision in The Representation of The People’s Act, 1951 and mandatory guidelines as directed by Election Commission of India during the time when Model Code of Conduct is in force. Allowing Thakre to continue with his illegal act would have far reaching effect in maintaining peace in the constituency especially during election period and also for conducting free and fair election. Ban Thakre from contesting 2024 Lok Sabha elections and further polls.
