Absence of divider at Hoshangabad Road after BRTS demolition becoming main reason for the accidents and traffic chaos around the area. After Sant Hirdaram Nagar, Roshanpura and Kamlapark area, Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has demolished the BRTS corridor at Hoshangabad Road from AMPRI to Misrod. Demolition of Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) was started from at Hoshangabad Road, AMPRI to BU square in first phase on March 5. The divider or central verge separates opposing lanes of traffic to prevent vehicles travelling in opposite directions from colliding. Absence of such arrangement specially at RRL trisection to Misrod has given ample choice to motorists to take a U-turn as per their convenience.

 

In first phase, BRTS corridor was removed from AMPRI Square to Barkatullah University tri-way while in second phase, Bagmugalia to Misrod corridor was removed. After dismantling the BRTS, road became 23.40 meter wider. There is plan to keep a 115 meter central verge and 3-3 lanes on both sides. However, divider could not be constructed yet to distribute the lanes. According to BMC, it is decided to decorate the central verge with plants and pot. Officials said that three JCB machines are assigned to break the construction work and after that iron angel were broken with the help The BRTS dismantling project is creating traffic chaos at the road especially during peak hours. At the same time it is also raising pollution level in the air. Officials of BMC said that repairing of roads after demolition was done on immediate basis but construction of divider would be taking time.

 

BRTS dismantle work began at three places including Bairagarh, Kamlapark to Collectorate office and Roshanpura to Polytechnic Square. In second phase, demolition was started at Hoshangabad Road. BMC officials said that area where BRTS corridor has been remove is having smooth traffic on six lanes with 23 meter wide in each row. However, centre verge is yet to be construct that would bring beautification to the road. There are 48 bus stops in corridor and all of them have been demolished. This includes Lalghati, Banganga, Polytechnic Square, Hoshangabad Road, etc. There are 21 traffic signals and 3 entry gates with CCTV surveillance. All these construction work have been demolished. Construction of central verge has been started at stretches like Roshanpura Square to Banganga Square but the work is in progress.
