President of India Droupadi Murmu conferred Padma Shri Awards for the year 2024 on social activist Jageshwar Yadav of Jashpur district at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-II held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Thursday. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion. Jageshwar Yadav walked before the President barefooted in half pant and a half shirt to receive the award at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. He has been winning accolade for his simplicity from all quarters.
 
Jageshwar Yaadav, alias ‘Behor Ke Bhai’, has been diligently working for the upliftment of the Pahadi Korva and Birhor tribes for decades. He had set up an ashram in Jashpur district of Surguja division in Chhattisgarh with the aim of eradicating illiteracy and elevating healthcare standards among the Birhor and Pahadi Korva tribes. Earlier, Jageshwar Yadav was also awarded the prestigious Shahid Veer Narayan Singh award for his exceptional contribution towards helping the cause of the tribal people in 2015. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Finance Minister O P Choudhary and others congratulated Jageshwar Yadav for receiving the Padma Shri Award, which is the fourth highest civilian award of the country.
 
Chief Minister Sai wrote on his X, “It is a moment of pride for the entire state after Jageshwar Yadav, who is known as the ‘Bhai of Birhor’, was conferred Padma by President Droupadi Murmu. He has dedicated his life for the uplifment of the primitive tribe groups of Chhattisgarh. Many congratulations and best wishes to him. Hi entire life dedicated to tribal upliftment is inspiring and exemplary.” Finance Minister O P Choudhary wrote on his X, “ Jageshwar Yadav of Chhattisgarh, known as the Birhor Ke Bhai, was conferred ‘Padma Shri’ by the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Endless congratulations to him for this achievement. Yadav has worked for the upliftment of primitive tribe groups in Chhattisgarh. His life is inspirational for all of us. Many, many congratulations to him.”
