Cleanliness campaign: JMC Commissioner Yadav encourages people to opt for jute, cloth bags

The Jabalpur Municipal Corporation continued its extensive cleanliness and public awareness campaign in the city. During the campaign Municipal Commissioner Preeti Yadav highlighted the crucial role of community participation for the success of the campaign. Urging those present on the occasion, she appealed everyone to carry jute or cloth bags from their homes instead of using polythene bags (plastic carry bags) while going to the market. During the event a cleanliness rally was organized in Shaheed Abdul Hamid Ward The rally after starting from Birsa Munda chowk and passing through important thoroughfares including Dhani Ki Kutia, Anand Nagar and various areas of the ward concluded near Aadhartal square. Citizens, shopkeepers and pedestrians along the rally route were encouraged to dispose of waste in municipal garbage trucks through street plays and rallies.
 
The Municipal Commissioner highlighted the serious illnesses caused by single-use plastic and banned polythene usage, raising awareness and inspiring action for cleanliness. Ahead of the upcoming Swachh Survekshan 2024, she urged citizens to strive for the number one spot and maintain cleanliness. Before the rally, homage was paid to the statue of freedom fighter Birsa Munda at Birsa Munda Square. During the cleanliness rally, shopkeepers found using single-use plastic and banned polythene bags were advised against the act. Likewise, street plays were performed along the rally route to discourage the use of single-use plastic and banned plastic bags and people were encouraged to carry cloth bags from home while going to the market. Information regarding the serious health hazards caused by single-use plastic and banned polythene was also given to the citizens.
