To vent ire over lack of basic amenities in their areas, a number of residents of Maa Reva Nagar, Jain Godam, Santa Kunj, Karmeta, Madhotal and other adjoining areas, led by senior leaders of Shiv Sena submitted a memorandum, designated to the Municipal Commissioner, to officials at Jabalpur Municipal Corporation headquarters. Shiv Sena District Vice President Shailendra Bari said the lack of street lighting due to non-installation of electricity poles by concerned authorities is leading to incidents of theft and harassment of women and girls in aforementioned areas.

He said people of low income group reside in the areas. They have to take temporary electricity connections from polls in nearby areas. Bari said the electricity department exploits residents through excessive billing due to the use of electricity from distant poles. Likewise, the areas suffer from poor sanitation and drainage, resulting in widespread filth and an increase in the population of snakes, scorpions and mosquitoes.

He said people of the areas have lodged complaints many a times with concerned senior officials of the Municipal Corporation, but till the date no positive step has been taken to resolve the problems of residents. He said the residents also met with MLA and area Corporator but, no action has been taken so far. Irked with the unconcerned attitude of JMC administration, the Shiv Sena leaders and local residents have warned of massive protests if their abovementioned problems are not resolved within 15 days.
