Congress leaders and Corporators have on Tuesday ended their indefinite dharna, against huge recovery of money from morning and evening walkers at Pt. Ravi Shankar Shukla stadium following assurances from the Collector. It may be noted that Congressmen had been raising their voice against the illegal recover from walkers in the stadium. However, neither the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation administration nor the district administration paid attention to the issues. Hence to intensify their protest, they started indefinite dharna in front of the stadium. On the second day of the protest, Collector, Deepak Saxena invited the Congress Party corporators for discussions. During discussions, the congressmen informed the Collector that the contractor had not adhered to any of the terms stipulated in the tender, leading to the exploitation of citizens.

The Collector discussed the matter in detail and assured the Congress leaders and Corporators that a thorough investigation would be conducted once the Model Code of Conduct ended on June 4. He promised that strict action would be taken against all officials involved in this malpractice. Apart from that, he assured the Congressmen that those who had been extorted by the contractor would get their money back after June 4. Furthermore, morning and evening walkers would only have to pay a fee of Rs 100 from the coming month. Following the Collector’s assurances, Congress leaders ended their dharna.
